Appropriately qualified members of the family have maintained representation on the Board of Trustees alongside respected professional people of local standing. The founder’s son, the late Sir Derek Higgs (knighted in 2005 for services to corporate governance) was Chair of Trustees until his death in 2008 and Marilyn Knatchbull-Hugessen JP, the founder’s daughter, is the present Chair.
Current Trustees have expertise in the law, commerce, social policy, family justice and the voluntary sector. There are four Trustees and a salaried Clerk to the Trustees who administers the business of the Charity. The Trustees’ role is to make charitable grants and conduct charitable activities and to have responsibility for the Charity’s funds. They receive no remuneration for the work they do and derive no benefit, personal or corporate, from their activities
